Dr. Guilherme Ferreira Dos Santos is the current Director of the Pain Unit of MIVI Salud at its headquarters in Barcelona-Sagrat Cor.

Trained in Medicine at the University of Lisbon and specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, he completed a fellowship in chronic pain at the University of Toronto.

He has a solid international career -including research stays at the Mayo Clinic (USA)- and is a reference in ultrasound-guided and interventional techniques for the treatment of pain.

He has published more than 35 articles in high impact international journals, and received relevant awards such as the “Young Clinical Researcher of the Year” and the World Academy of Pain Medicine United fellowship.

  • 2025 - Present: Medical Director of the Pain Unit MIVI Barcelona Sagrat Cor - Hospital Universitari Sagrat Cor, Barcelona
  • 2024 - Present: Director of Clinical Fellowship Program in Interventional Pain Medicine
  • 2023 - Present: Senior Specialist and Clinical Manager of the Center of Excellence in Education and Training in Pain Medicine - Hospital Clínic de Barcelona.

Training

  • 2022: Clinical Fellowship in Chronic Pain Medicine - University of Toronto (Canada), with Drs. Anuj Bhatia, Paul Tumber and Philip Peng.
  • 2018 and 2021: Visiting Clinical Research Scholar - Mayo Clinic, Department of Pain Medicine (USA), under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Friedrich Hurdle.
  • 2020: Specialty in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (5-year Residency) - Portugal
  • 2014: Degree in Medicine - University of Lisbon (Portugal).

Academic and research experience

  • Since 2022: Participation as lecturer and clinical assistant to Dr. Philip Peng in national and international training on ultrasound-guided techniques in Pain Medicine.
  • Since 2018: Collaborator in the improvement of ultrasound-guided techniques for chronic spinal pain at Mayo Clinic.
  • Lecturer in more than 25 countries
  • Active training and mentoring of professionals in interventional ultrasound applied to pain

I have experienced the utmost professional and reliable advice and help from this unit. Struggling with Meralgia Parastetica for over 2 years and intense discomfort and pain during the past 8 months I am now finally getting the help I needed. Llevo años acudiendo a esta clínica tanto a clases de Pilates máquinas como, puntualmente, a tratamientos de abdomen con Indiba, y estoy encantada. Quiero destacar especialmente a mi profe de Pilates José, que además es fisioterapeuta. Está siempre pendiente de las lesiones y necesidades de cada persona y adapta los ejercicios de forma individualizada, haciendo que cada clase sea segura y efectiva. También se preocupa muchísimo por los horarios y porque podamos recuperar las clases cuando lo necesitamos. En alguna ocasión incluso me ha tratado de manera totalmente altruista alguna dolencia pasajera, un gesto que dice mucho de su calidad humana y de su vocación. Un gran profesional y una clínica totalmente recomendable por su trato cercano y su atención personalizada. 🤍

Después de poco más de un año, con un dolor crónico, desesperante, visitando varios traumatólogos, varios médicos, fisioterapia, pastillas, desde que me levantaba hasta que me acostaba, entrando dos veces en quirófano con otro doctor, Me hablaron de él y solamente en una consulta supo lo que necesitaba. Ayer entré en quirófano en manos de el y no sabéis lo que es despertaros simplemente con pequeñas molestias y no con ese dolor tan desesperante. Muchísimas gracias por haberme escuchado y entendido lo que otros no lo han hecho en más de un año. Y su sectaria es un amor. 🥰 mil gracias!!!
