International Nurses Day 2023

International Nurses Day 2023

Friday, May 12 marks International Nurses’ Day, or International Nurses’ Day, one of the most beautiful and most necessary of all professions, and commemorates the birth of Florence Nightingale, the forerunner of modern professional nursing.

As every year, this celebration aims to recognize and highlight the value of nurses working around the world, as they are a fundamental part in the provision of health services and contribute to improving the quality of life of people.

Various associations and entities will carry out different activities to celebrate this day. Among them, the International Council of Nurses, under the slogan “Our nurses. Our Future.

For the 2023 edition, this international federation, which has more than 130 members in different countries around the world, including Spain with the General Council of Official Nursing Colleges of Spain, has focused on what has been learned from the pandemic, and on the efforts made by all nurses in recent years.

Thanks to this learning, consensus can be established to improve and strengthen health systems in order to address new demands that may arise in global health.

Nursing in pain units

At Instituto Aliaga we treat pain through a holistic and multidisciplinary approach, which includes different areas, both physical and psychological, and related to habits such as nutrition. Therefore, we understand that the nursing staff performs a task that goes beyond medical care to our patients.

In addition to certain analgesic techniques, TENS therapy, transcranial stimulation therapy and lontophoresis, among others, are also the responsibility of the nursing staff in a pain unit. They also play an important role in everything related to patient education on issues concerning their disease and its treatment, in improving self-care and empowerment to improve their quality of life, as well as providing a close and friendly treatment to alleviate situations that may be unfamiliar and stressful for the patient.

Along with all of the above, nurses also often act as a liaison between the patient and his or her environment, and the rest of the medical team. Empathy and closeness is essential to provide the best possible care.

At Instituto Aliaga we are aware of the importance of the nursing staff, and we are privileged to have great people in our team who, in addition to their role as health professionals, provide adequate and comprehensive care to provide the highest quality intervention to each person who comes to us.

If you want to know more, do not miss the very interesting interview we did with our nursing staff specialized in pain interventionism, in which they explain the reasons why they chose this profession, and what functions they perform in their day-to-day work.
