Dr. Guilherme Ferreira Dos Santos is the current Director of the Pain Unit of MIVI Salud at its headquarters in Barcelona-Sagrat Cor.

Trained in Medicine at the University of Lisbon and specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, he completed a fellowship in chronic pain at the University of Toronto.

He has a solid international career -including research stays at the Mayo Clinic (USA)- and is a reference in ultrasound-guided and interventional techniques for the treatment of pain.

He has published more than 35 articles in high impact international journals, and received relevant awards such as the “Young Clinical Researcher of the Year” and the World Academy of Pain Medicine United fellowship.

  • 2025 - Present: Medical Director of the Pain Unit MIVI Barcelona Sagrat Cor - Hospital Universitari Sagrat Cor, Barcelona
  • 2024 - Present: Director of Clinical Fellowship Program in Interventional Pain Medicine
  • 2023 - Present: Senior Specialist and Clinical Manager of the Center of Excellence in Education and Training in Pain Medicine - Hospital Clínic de Barcelona.

Training

  • 2022: Clinical Fellowship in Chronic Pain Medicine - University of Toronto (Canada), with Drs. Anuj Bhatia, Paul Tumber and Philip Peng.
  • 2018 and 2021: Visiting Clinical Research Scholar - Mayo Clinic, Department of Pain Medicine (USA), under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Friedrich Hurdle.
  • 2020: Specialty in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (5-year Residency) - Portugal
  • 2014: Degree in Medicine - University of Lisbon (Portugal).

Academic and research experience

  • Since 2022: Participation as lecturer and clinical assistant to Dr. Philip Peng in national and international training on ultrasound-guided techniques in Pain Medicine.
  • Since 2018: Collaborator in the improvement of ultrasound-guided techniques for chronic spinal pain at Mayo Clinic.
  • Lecturer in more than 25 countries
  • Active training and mentoring of professionals in interventional ultrasound applied to pain

  • More than 35 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed Q1 indexed journals

Hola buenos día quería compartir mi experiencia después de dos semanas de hospitales con infiltraciones y hincharme a medicación para tumbar a un caballo menos mal que tomé la decisión de visitar ala unida del dolor 1 que todo felicitar Dr Jorge orduña Valls un profesional y con mucha paciencia me lo explicó todo muy bien y supo en todo momento donde estaba el problema y felicitar a todo su equipo médico y Camila y rocio que en todo momento me ayudaron a toda la gestión y se preocuparon por todo muchas gracias

Vull agrair molt l’atenció rebuda al Centre MIVI i, especialment, al Dr. Francisco Duca, que m’ha tractat l’esquena. Em van fer una infiltració i una rizòlisi, i en tot moment em vaig sentir molt ben atesa, escoltada i acompanyada. Tant el doctor com tot l’equip han estat molt pendents de mi, amb un tracte proper, humà i molt amable, cosa que s’agraeix molt quan passes per un procés així. El Dr. Duca m’ha transmès confiança i professionalitat, explicant-me les coses amb claredat i cuidant tots els detalls. Quiero expresar mi más sincero agradecimiento al equipo de la Unidad del Dolor MIVI Tenerife (Quirón). Son grandes profesionales y, sobre todo, personas cercanas, atentas y muy humanas. Después de dos años con un dolor insoportable y de recorrer muchísimos médicos sin encontrar una solución, llegué a ellos. Este doctor ha sido el primero que después de este tiempo de dolor ,realmente me escuchó y encontró el tratamiento que me devolvió la calidad de vida. Además, las enfermeras son increíbles.
