DESCRIPTION
MIVI pain and physiotherapy units are specialized centers in the treatment of all types of pain and musculoskeletal ailments. We work with a multidisciplinary methodology that studies each case and offers a specific response adapted to each need. Our highly specialized team has extensive experience in the treatment of pain and will work to improve the quality of life of our patients. Pain has gone from being a symptom to a disease with its own complexity. For this reason, it is a priority for us to respond to this need: to have a life without pain.

What is a pain unit and why is it gaining prominence?
Hello Jorge, how are you?
Hello Hugo, how are you? Nothing, a pleasure to meet you again and chat about what we like the most.
Yes, nice to get together again, isn’t it? That’s right.
Jorge, I am particularly interested in knowing what a pain unit is, because nowadays we think it is a fashion and a trend.
Well, it is a health center that, in the end, what it seeks is, with a group of specialists from different fields, both medical and non-medical, to provide the patient with the tools to diagnose the origin of the pain he or she is suffering and how to alleviate it. It is something that was born in the United States, many years ago. In Spain it has been implemented in the Social Security units of the National Health System.
Has the concept of pain unit evolved?
Yes, I think you are absolutely right. The pain units, or pain medicine… We are seeing that patients used them as a last resort, and do you think that today they can be a tool that they use as a first resort?
I would say more and more. It is no longer that point at which the patient arrived… I remember when I started with this, many times having already tried all kinds of treatments. It came as a last resort, with very high doses of opiates. Now people have very much internalized what pain units are.
What differentiates a MIVI center?
Based on that, I wanted to ask you, Hugo, what is the differential philosophy that you believe distinguishes a MIVI center from other pain units.
MIVI Philosophy
Within the MIVI philosophy we will highlight:
-
Multidisciplinary approachNot only anesthesiologists, but also different professionals such as nurses, podiatrists, physiotherapists, nutritionists, psychologists…
-
Team cohesionThe patient perceives that the whole team is aligned.
-
Advanced technology and techniquesalways based on scientific evidence.
-
Personalized treatmentindividualized care that covers not only pain, but the patient’s pathology as a whole.
The importance of rehabilitation and support
This is very important, because it is something we talk about among physicians working in the National Health System: the deficiency that often exists in physiotherapy treatments.
Listening to and accompanying the patient
I believe that the success of MIVI lies in listening to the patient, focusing on the patient. listening to the patient, focusing on the patient and their needs. We do not only treat pain, but also:
-
Movement disorders
-
Emotional state
-
Sleep quality
The cohesive team offers you the best treatment at the best time. This security and support is essential for you to feel safe, comfortable and motivated. comfortable and motivated..
Self-management and empowerment
The chronic pain patient feels lost. We must inform him, guide him and help him to manage his disease. Empowerment is essential for their recovery process.
Real multidisciplinarity: how to work as a team?
It is important for professionals to maintain fluid communicationand that the patient is not the connector between them.
Practical example: biomechanics and low back pain
In cases such as lumbar problems, there may be a biomechanical origin in the knee or hip. That is why it is essential to have:
-
Podiatrist
-
Physiotherapist
-
Rehabilitation Physician
-
Psychologist
-
Nutritionist
All of them work in a coordinated way to detect the cause and treat it from the base.
The impact of advanced physical therapy
Beyond the “light bulb and currents”.
One of the great challenges is to changing the perception of physical therapy. Many patients see it as a waste of time, but advanced physical therapy goes much further.
What is advanced physical therapy?
-
Personalized therapies
-
Ultrasound-guided techniques
-
Use of technology such as ultrasound, MBST, Magnetolith
-
Invasive treatments with ultrasound guidance
-
Active and personalized recovery programs
All this translates into a faster, more effective and faster, more effective and longer lasting recoveryThe therapeutic window, in which the patient has no pain or manages it adequately, is widened.
Technology as an ally in recovery
Technology does not replace the professional, it adds to and enhances the results. Equipment such as MBST or Magnetolith generate cellular changes that, combined with exercise, achieve real results.
“We put all the ingredients to make a good therapeutic stew… a good fabada.”
Conclusion: a cohesive network at the service of the patient
MIVI’s success lies in having been able to position all to position all professionals in a transversal way, with a common goalwith a common goal: the well-being of the patient..
“That all professionals talk to each other on a one-on-one basis and that the focus is on the patient. That’s what anyone wants when dealing with pain.”
And we will continue:
-
Fighting
-
Training
-
Working on our methodology
-
Using the best techniques and technologies
Because our patients deserve to be where they really deserve to be.
