What is
Osteoarthritis of the hip involves degeneration and wear and tear of this vital joint for leg movement. It occurs “through wear and tear” and triggers limitations in everyday movements such as bending the trunk, stooping or standing up. Its development is usually slow and the pain appears progressively and worsens over time. As there is no cure, the mission will be to stop the deterioration of the joint and provide the ideal conditions for it to last for many years.

Causes
- Age: the cartilage’s low capacity for repair decreases every year, to which we have to add the wear and tear that occurs.
- Obesity: the joint is directly overloaded in situations involving excessive weight.
- Hereditary factors: the shape of our legs, of our pelvis conditions a direct overload of this joint.
- Limb dysmetries: having one leg longer than the other places a direct overload on the hip joint.
- Lumbosacral problems: lesions of the intervertebral discs, lumbar arthrosis and other types of pathologies of the lumbo-sacral area place a daily overload on the hip.
Symptoms
The symptoms accompanying osteoarthritis generally do not appear suddenly, but develop over the years. The most frequent are:
- Pain in the area that due to cartilage wear is no longer protected. It usually manifests itself in the groin region.
- The crunching sounds that occur when the joint wears out.
- The effusion that produces inflammation that is triggered in an unprotected joint.
- The daily and continuous shock of bones devoid of cartilage.
- Decreased mobility.
